Our Cup of Tea!
Natural Vanillin
Vanillin is one of the most versatile and valuable flavoring agents in the world. It is considered an essential ingrediënt for the food industry, where it is used to add a sweet taste to a wide range of products. On top of that, it plays an increasingly important role in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. With applications ranging from chocolate and ice cream to perfumes and sun cream, vanillin has become an indispensable part in many production processes. Plinius Labs is at the forefront of the shift away from petrochemical processes towards more sustainable and high-performing solutions.
GreenShield
Plinius Labs (Belgium) and EGGXPERT (Netherlands) are collaborating with the help of Interreg CrossRoads to develop a sustainable sunscreen using upcycled eggshells, which are rich in biocalcium carbonate. This biomineral can replace harmful UV filters like zinc and titanium oxides found in traditional sunscreens. The eco-friendly formula being developed by Plinius Labs reduces environmental impact, particularly on marine life, and decreases reliance on fossil-based ingredients, leveraging natural chemistry to create high-quality, sustainable products from waste.
Own Green Materials
Bio-refinery and reactive extraction
We are building a unique portfolio of Green Ingredients in the most sustainable way by extracting valuable biochemicals using eco-friendly techniques. We specialise in bio-refinery and reactive extraction as well as cross-pollinating with fermentation and white biotechnology. We aim at producing chemicals that qualify as natural products within the defined guidelines of the legislative bodies. These products can be used in foods and healthcare, as authentic natural materials. Additionally molecules from biobased origin can be prepared and implemented in consumer products as natural and green alternatives to current petrochemically derived materials.
